Contingent Workers: Ewan

Ewan is a graphic designer and back in 2017, he was working from a couple of different coworks in London. After more than 20 years of waiting on the platform at Bromley South it occurred to him to see if there was a cowork in Bromley. There was nothing to compare with the creative and flexible spaces in central London so wondered how hard it could be to open his own.

He felt that Bromley once nurtured some really groundbreaking talent, from Charles Darwin to David Bowie and that with help he could create a space for a community that celebrated and nurtured local creative and business talent.

“I knew I couldn’t do it on my own but I didn’t realise just how much work would be involved.”

Ewan partnered with long-standing friends with a great mix of skills to get Contingent Works up and running. We’ll feature both Stephen Somerville and Pete Manlay here in further posts.

Contingent Works. What brought you to Bromley?
Ewan Buck. My wife! We met at Ravensbourne College in Chislehurst and apart from a few years abroad have lived in Bromley ever since.

CW. How will opening a cowork help businesses?
EB. While there are some places for small businesses in Bromley we really wanted to help all the home workers, all the remote start-up entrepreneurs in coffee shops and do it in as flexible a way as possible so that all this local talent can concentrate on their projects while we sort everything else. We just didn’t realise quite how long a list ‘everything else’ would be.

CW. How does it work?
EB. We are providing a permanent place of work for some and occasional space for others to use when they want. Memberships are priced accordingly - providing desk space for as little as £12 a day including coffee.

CW. What are the benefits?
EB. If you work from home you have an option to get out of the house, meet people and be more productive in a friendly and professional space. Your business can run smoothly and professionally by using our virtual office facilities such as registered office, mailing address and google pin

CW. What keeps you going through the day?
EB. Knowing that we can shape something that will have a positive impact on Bromley, oh and coffee of course.
